Narcissistic Personality Disorder
A personality disorder characterized by a grandiose sense of self-importance, need for excessive admiration, and lack of empathy for others.
Prevalence: 0.5-1% of general population. Up to 6.2% in community samples. More commonly diagnosed in men (50-75% male).
Common Symptoms
- Grandiose sense of self-importance
- Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
- Belief that they are 'special' and unique
- Need for excessive admiration
